a good reminder

"Make up your mind to be happy-even when you don't have money, even when you don't have a clear complexion, even when you don't have the Nobel Prize. Some of the happiest people I know have none of these things the world insists are necessary for satisfaction and joy... They glory in the beauty of the earth. They glory in the rivers and the canyons and the call of the meadowlark. They glory in the love of their families, the stumbling steps of a toddler, the wise and tender smile of the elderly. They glory in honest labor. They glory in the scriptures. They glory in the presence of the Holy Ghost. One thing I know for certain: the time we have here goes by far too quickly. Don't waste any more time sitting on the bench watching life pass you by."

A little bit of everything: Winco(!), Snowbird tram, my birthday, carpet, southern Utah, and Veteran's Day

Okay, first of all, I have to talk about this:
WinCo opened two stores in Utah a couple weeks ago. Brian and I went this week, and I literally almost cried with joy when I saw Tillamook ice cream, yogurt, and other wonderful Oregon products. I still want Trader Joe's to come to Utah, but going to WinCo made grocery shopping one very exciting evening (go ahead, laugh at my sappiness!). Best part - Brian bagged the groceries for me. Worst part - spending three times as much as we should have. (We might have gone a little overboard buying everything made in Oregon...)

Last weekend...

We went to the Snowbird tram - like last year. Free tickets in exchange for a can of food - a good deal if you ask me. It was a beautiful crisp fall day, perfect for viewing the awe-inspiring mountains.

Afterwards, my sister and her family then came to my house and provided dinner and cake. KR and Heather were also there to celebrate my quarter-century (eek!) birthday.

I couldn't find any candles (I could have sworn I had some...), so Brian literally put a match in the cake. I would show you a picture but the paparazzi must have missed that photo-op.

I had a really nice, quiet birthday. Exactly what I wished for :)

In other news...
Have you ever picked out carpet? We're in the process and it is awful. If you have ever met me, you know that I am absolutely terrible at making decisions. Brian almost always chooses where we go out to eat, simply because I can't make up my mind. I think we've finally made our decision, and, unless I change my mind, we're having new carpet installed the week after Thanksgiving. If you have been in our house you have noticed our awful ugly horrible berber loop carpet. I'm really excited to get new, softer, prettier carpet, but I have this awful paranoia that after paying a ton of money to get it installed, I will decide that, "hmm, maybe I don't like that color after all?"

(Let's hope not!)

Back in September, Brian and I, KR and Heather, and my parents all went down to my sister Michelle's house, near St. George. I love every chance I get to spend time with family, and this was no exception. My sweet 8-year-old nephew was baptized and I got to spend much needed quality time with everyone. Here's one picture from that weekend:

Brian calls this dress my lab coat. But I like it anyway. I might like him a little bit, as well. I've been sick the last couple of weeks, and he has been so good to take care of me.

Last but not least...
Today I am thinking of my Grandpa Marchant, who served on a submarine in WWII. He has shrapnel in his shoulder to show for his service. Happy Veteran's Day!

I was SO excited that they brought a WinCo here!! 2009 is such a good year - I get In-N-Out and the best grocery store ever!! (Tho I 100% agree with you on the Trader Joe's thing... who knows when that'll happen!)

And I still love that picture of you and Brian!

I'm so jealous! All the good stuff is at the other end of the valley from me!

And Happy Birthday! How was your birthday lunch? Where did you finally decide to go?

There's a WinCo here in Idaho Falls as well. We love the Tillamook yogurt, cheese, and butter, but somehow we haven't tried the ice cream yet...how did this happen? We also love the bulk section.

Elisabeth, I highly recommend the Tillamook Udderly Chocolate flavor ice cream. All of their flavors are great, but this one tops them all, in my opinion! :)
